Side light not working on estate rear lamp, bulb fine

Checked the bulb ok. Side light will not work on 740 estate os rear lamp. Bulb holder doesn't appear to be coroded.
Any ideas?

First, check for 12 volts at the bulb holder. If not, the problem is further back and not easily done. You need to check for 12 volts at the other end of the wire, probably at the bulb failure relay (not looking at wiring diagram at present). BTW, what year is the car(facelift or square)?

Car is on an E plate 1988.
