Is your rear axle not for car with multilink? Will that fit my 740 with live rear axle?

My 760 rear is multilink which unfortunately will not fit under an estate. However if you can salvage the rear suspension from a 960 (after 1995) estate or saloon, it may be possible to fit that multilink (mark 2) to your car as it is a lower height fitting.

Hm, sounds like a complicated process. Is that rear suspension much better?

The best thing about the Mk2 version is that it fits estate cars with no problems (if they are 965/V90). I am not sure if it uses the same locating fixings as the 745/765/945. I was intending trying to fit the 760 rear suspension to my 945 but haven't had the time to suss it out. I think my best bet is to look for a Mk2 version and fit that with standard spring and Nivomats.

If I want to stick your autobox into my diesel, I need the propshaft as it is of a different length, I know that, but do I really need a new rear axle? and if I do not, will your propshaft fit being out of a multilink car?

I would think that as the halfshafts are the same distance overall from the rear of the engine that there would be no difference whether multilink or solid. The only problem may be in the couplings, but if they are both plate types with four bolts then if you experience imbalance you may have to shift the mating round by a hole or two.

I'll look into this and if the answer is positive, I'll sort out something to have this done and also go to Allard to sort out my fuel pump. What sort of money would you be looking at for the box and propshaft? Would you know someone who would be able to help with installation and what sort of money do you think that would be?

I should think no more than £75 for both. I do not know of anyone who would be able to help with installation over here I am afraid. Have you got a source for the torque converter and starter ring gear with the lightweight flywheel? These items normally stay with the engine when pulling the box.

I have been told the propshaft will be too short. I do not have a source for the other stuff, no. Will keep looking.

Who told you that George? The ZF box is shorter than the AW plus O/D so my propshaft should be long enough for your purpose. Remember most Diesels were matched to the ZF box as the ratios were better suited and the box is stronger than the AW unit.
