XC60 knocking sound around gear selector area of console
Hi
I am hoping someone can help me. I am getting a knocking sound from around the gear selector area of the centre console when accelerating and braking as if something is loose. I have had the the side panels off in the footwells and secured a few heater parts and cables but still have the issue. There is a connector to the gear stick that is on a ball joint but I have held this and still get the noise. It's driving me mad. Thanks |

Possibly the upper torque bush had it so the engine is slapping around a bit.

One person's 'tinkling' may be another's 'knocking'.
My very irritating noise from approximately the same area also occurred during acceleration and braking. You never know this may help, I hope it does:- https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=210652 |

Thanks for the replies
Mine doesn't have stop start and I also had a brand new engine fitted 6 months ago due to a crack in the block. Thank God it was under warranty. Probably a better description would be a ball bearing rolling one end to the other and hitting hard plastic. You can also feel it when you put your hand on the side of centre console near the gear stick. Not much access under there. I may need to remove all the centre console for a better view. Was hoping it was a common thing like the creaky cover around the sat nav screen. Cheers |
