Default Rear Suspension

I don't think my rear suspension is supposed to look like this.

Look a bit closer, the mount for the strut has snapped at both the bolts and has has detached itself from the body of the car.

What on earth were you up to? Is it under any sort of warranty?

No warranty, I'm afraid, the car is 8 years old 70,000 miles on the clock.

I wasn't doing anything unusual. It appeared to let itself loose on the motorway, I went over a bump in the road, nothing major, and a rattle immediately started. Didn't realise what it was at first, and didn't seem to have a huge impact on the driving experience, it was only when I went to investigate the rattle, and looked in the rear wheel arch did I see that the strut was no longer securely attached to the car, with what appeared to be the internal spring holding it in position.

On a related note, my car appears to be rapidly disintegrating. 3 weeks ago, the RAC towed me to the garage, because my front brake disc broke. 2 weeks ago, the RAC towed me to the garage, because my rear brake caliper had seized on (first thoughts were they were related to the brake work somehow as all the pads got changed at the time, but RAC man said he didn't think so). Both times the RAC man commented how unusual these faults were, and he doesn't see many Volvos. (little comfort for me) Then last week, the suspension mount went.

Seems a little early to me for this many faults to be cropping up. I'm left wondering what is going to go next ?
