Default How often should a regen happen?

Hi folks

I have a 2016 D4 AWD with Polestar. It's got 54k on it. I'm doing around 500 miles a week which consists of two 200 mile runs on fast roads, daily 32 mile round trips again on fast roads and some short local stuff.

I'm seeing the car doing regens quite frequently I.e. a couple of times a week that seems excessive for the type of journeys I'm doing

Any thoughts on the frequency? Is our normal or am I right to be concerned?

I'm using supermarket fuel pretty much all the time

VIDA gives you the numbers and you can thus calculate it

I calculated on my D5 and came up with once ever 1 to 1.5 tanks of fuel

But it is really REALLY dependent on your driving style.
The more cold starts and short drives you do, the more soot is generated and the more often a regen must occur....

How can you tell if a regen is happening?

I have a 2017 D4 AWD manual & can advise the following.

At the moment my journeys are shortish (average 10 miles from cold & then back home an hour or so later) & it’s doing a regen roughly every 240 miles or so. I’ll be doing a 600 mile trip in a weeks time, so will be interesting to see if the interval extends.

I have a plug in OBD Bluetooth dongle which connects to the car scanner app on my iphone - one of the parameters it can show is DPF soot, you can watch it gradually increase & then see the soot level go back down as the regen progresses - it takes about 15 mins or so & the cycle continues.

The other way, which is a bit less scientific, is to keep an eye on the stop/start status in the “my car” display. If it goes from “available” to “unavailable” then it’s possible that a regen is in progress- although there are a whole bunch of other reasons which could cause the change of state. I won’t go into them now, but I find it useful to keep an eye on the stop/start display when I’m getting towards that mileage point so then I can see a regen has started & then finished. I don’t like interrupting them & tend to let them finish.

Hope this helps ......

Mine does a regen approx every 400 miles.
I'm mostly doing A roads and motorways.

When I had a VW Passat inbetween Volvos, there was a VAG DPF app via an OBDII adaptor which would give you real time info on the DPF. It would alert every time a regen began and finished. So far I havent come across any app which does the same for Volvos.

Lincolnite just mentioned that Car Scanner Elm Obd2 app will display DPF soot in Volvo cars and plethora of other parameters.
Once installed, just choose your car in "Settings-Connection-Choose connection profile".

Thanks folks. Maybe I'm worrying about nothing.

I've done 24k in the last year with that mostly being made up of 200 mile drives with one break so no many starts. The rest of the miles are commuting 16 miles each way and shorter local stuff.

I'll keep an eye on it

My unscientific way if knowing that a regen is happening is as follows

1. The stop/start becomes unavailable with engine system as the reason
2. When slowing, the real-time mpg won't go all the way toto 99.0 and idle consumption is around 0.5 gallons pretty hour as opposed to 0.2
3. Tail pipes are much hotter if i stop shortly after regen completes

Another happy 'Car Scanner' app user here with full access to DPF info... also enables the VEA engine oil level sensor to be read in mm.
