iPhone version: Car Scanner ELM OBD2 for iOS.

Once installed, you should select your car in "Settings/Connection/Choose connection profile: Volvo" (several profiles available, choose your engine type).

Am I missing something here. How does the app on the phone connect to the car do you require a special dongle or something. I am very interested in this app if someone could point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance

It is necessary to plug an adaptor into the vehicle diagnostic port, that then uses Bluetooth to communicate with the mobile device (e.g. phone) running the app. The most common adaptor is the ELM327, I bought mine from the Gearbest website for £2.60.

Edit - it's slightly more expensive now, plus the exchange rate is worse. Still peanuts though... https://www.gearbest.com/car-gadgets...ml?wid=1433363

You need to be really careful buying really cheap ODB dongles.
You are trusting your cars brain with possibly an unbranded PPS?
I bought a couple via eBay only to find they weren’t fully compatible with Volvo.

In the end I splashed out on a Viecar unit & it worked first time.

All IMHO of course .....

I am considering this:

Pending some more research.

Happy to confirm that both ELM327s I bought from Gearbest work fine with my Volvo plus a large number of other family/friend's/neighbour's vehicles. The only minor 'oddity' is when plugged into my wife's MR2 roadster it causes the ABS warning light to come on!

The other way of knowing if a regen is in progress is the instantaneous economy nosedives (by about 50%...)
