Default How much is the cost to install software on a new dim?

Hello, like I wrote before, I have a S60 from 2003 with 123,000 km, my DIM is totally damaged and here in Peru is very difficult to get second hand car parts from outside countries because of law politics.

So sadly I must go the route of buying a new DIM from the dealer and install the software.

here the only dealer in all the country is charging me $1800 the DIM alone, but without the software installation, when I asked (by whatsapp) this information the dealer man said something like "the price would be known when the DIM arrives and the service area put the price".

BUT on the web I read that the process of downloading the software to the new DIM has a code number because is a specific "work", so it should have a price.

any of you know in reality how much this installation cost? and how much hours of labor are needed? (in total how much will it cost)

thinking about selling it:
because here my whole car (with a good DIM) could be sold at about $5000 at most. and without the DIM it goes to $3000 or even less

doing the numbers, if the cost of DIM plus the software is too much I should maybe just sell it like it is right now?

I'm totally

The DIM can be repaired, that way it doesn't need to be programmed to the car. There's a guy who repairs them in the UK but I guess you'd have to find a similar service local to you.

problem is

I tried to repair myself following a YouTube tutorial and it went totally bad.

I sent this to a Volvo truck electronics specialist and he said my DIM is too damaged.

Well if you could get a used DIM in Peru i don't think it needs software.
That was the case with my 2006 S40.

The only problem is the mileage will show whichever is the highest from the new dim or your original stored distance in the ecu.
