Default Volvo HU-803 Radio

Hi All,
When I bought my 2005 V70 it had an aftermarket double din sound system fitted, not happy with the sound ofthis Panasonic unit so have bought a seconhand HU-803 from Ebay, so my question is will I have to get this re coded or should it plug and play?

Battery disconnected. Look under driver's seat for the amplifier. If it's not there, the HU-803 won't work - you need amp and amp cable to the unit. The hu-613 doesn't need the amp and cable. As for compatibility, really get a unit from the same year as yours, or audio controls on the steering and radio backlight may not work. Otherwise no programming/code needed

Also, 2005 might be a facelift in which case the 803 won't fit. You'd need the 850 if you've got the amp.

Thanks Reggit and yes it is on a 55 plate so facelift model I think, looks like I have meesed up, the Panasonic thats in it now, the seems to just come out of the dash speaker, when I pulled it out it has been wired in with a wiring kit but none of the steering wheel volume etc dont work but the sound is very thin so may look at wiring in that properly to try and get output to all speakers, have still forgot to check on if there is an amp under the drivers seat so will do that and report back

Finally my back injury is cured so gave the old girl a service today and finally was able to get down and have a peek under the drivers seat and there is a black box with cooling fins that I assume is the amplifier, I order the HU-803 from Ebay on 18th March and it finally arrived today 4th April so not sure if it will fit or not, so may as well return it for a refund and try and find a decent priced HU-850

Yes, that's the amplifier, it's compatible with all units and you will also have its cable.

I suggest focusing your efforts on getting the Panasonic unit working properly. HU850s are very unreliable and sound quality isn't a patch on the HU803. Unfortunately you can't fit a HU803 in a facelift car, if you could I would in a heartbeat! (I miss the HU803 from my old car, I now have a faulty HU850 that doesn't even sound as good when its working...)

This website has everything you need. Good luck!
