No, i haven't, didn't know there was such a thing, sounds plausible though, any further info would be much appreciated

I have the cross member if you want pictures of the catches.
Thanks, oh, i thought rivets cause it sounded like they were metal when i tapped them with my pick tool, to be honest, i was looking for any excuse to to take the bumper off at that point, having thought they were rivets nailed it lol

Might well be beneficial to have a photo, when you get chance, thanks

I've attached a diagram of the bonnet catch mechanism, it shows that used in LHD vehicles - the UK RHD version is a mirror image.
bb54 posted the solution below for an 850/V70 Pq - the catch mechanism & transfer cables are almost identical

You could also try MarvinMitt's post of a how to here https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=261636 it looks as though the photos are blocked but you should be able to see enough to judge the best way forward. If I get time later today I'll access ViDa to find some instructions and photos.

I think you have to remove the bumper cover - then unbolt the catches - see pictures:-

Isn't that always the way though! Having watched an MOT tester replace a headlamp bulb in seconds, I'm lucky when it comes to changing the dipped beam bulbs, as he did, I can get my left arm alongside the back of the radiator & slam panel to get at the N/S bulb without having to take out the filter box etc.

Some have all the luck

Even doing the transmission fluid was a pain cause my air filter box has a blooming control management box on it so when it says to remove it and refit it so its out of the way, its close to impossible, i say close because i only just managed to refit it upside down so it was just out of the way to refill the fluid, not an easy task, but i'd rather that than to take off a bumper, its just a pain on ya own

I'm not looking forward to it but I won't let it ruin my day. Stupid design.

Whatever your particulars are I suggest fixing your bonnet latch(es?) before they fail in the closed position. Easier to fix when you're able to open the bonnet.
The orange side marker bulb can be changed in place , the holder has long tags which can be grabbed with two fingers and rotated to undo it and pull out . it helps to take out the wash bottle filler tube on that side .

May also try using pliers to rotate the bulb - I found out rotating it with the tips of the fingers may not work https://youtu.be/Aq0V_anGtUw

Easiest way to remove the indicator lamp is by using a socket on a short extension bar...I think it is either a 19mm or 22mm socket that fits over the plastic tang of the holder.
