Anyone knows how often does it regenerate and how long does it last?

Any signs that this is going on?

Depends on driving style, speed, environmental temperature, etc. impossible to tell how often and "how long it lasts" When driving you can usually tell it by your mpg going down- and when stopped you will notice the cooling fan working on max..

As petrol exhausts are naturally hotter than diesels, the clues of it happening at likely to be less pronounced than with a diesel.

Are we talking regeneration every hundreds of miles or every tens of miles?

I've never noticed it in the 6500 miles I have done.

I must admit that i had always thought it was only diesel engines that had regenerations cycles not petrol engines like ours..............unless some-one knows differently?

Copied from my 2020 XC90 manual
Petrol particle filter
Petrol cars are fitted with particle filters for more efficient emission control.

Particles in the exhaust gases are collected in the petrol particle filter during normal driving. In normal driving conditions, passive regeneration takes place, which leads to the particles being oxidised and burned away. The filter is emptied in this way.

If the car is driven at low speed or with repeated cold starts in low outside temperature, active regeneration may be necessary. Regeneration of the particulate filter is automatic and normally takes 10-20 minutes. Fuel consumption may temporarily increase during regeneration.

Use the parking heater in cold weather - the engine then reaches normal operating temperature more quickly.

When driving short distances at low speeds in a petrol car
The capacity of the emissions system is affected by how the car is driven. Driving varying distances and at different speeds is important in order to achieve performance that is as energy-efficient as possible.

Driving short distances at low speeds (or in cold climates) frequently, where the engine does not reach normal operating temperature, can lead to problems that can eventually cause a malfunction and trigger a warning message. If the vehicle is mostly driven in city traffic, it is important to regularly drive at higher speeds to allow the emissions system to regenerate.

The car should be driven on A-roads at speeds in excess of 70 km/h (44 mph) for at least 20 minutes between each refuelling.

Volvo's petrol engines have it since MY2019. It's one of the reasons I bought a MY2018.

DPF and PPF are different but yet similar! Basically because they do a similar job doesn’t mean they are have the same issues.

My MY19 T5 has never noticeably regenerated in3k miles, my old MY16 D5 seemed to regenerate regularly and at least once a month sounded like it was on a space mission after switching the engine off.

Hi Im new the the forum, but I am looking at a 2018 XC60 T5 Momentum, Do we know if this would be fitted with a GPF or not?

From what I have tried to find out out there on the internet there is not a definitive answer (that I can find anyway). It I moved from diesels due to the DPF issues and I just don't want the same again. I only do 25 miles a day commute (12 ish there then back home again).

This has killed a few DPF's in the past at great expense to my pocket.

Thanks for your help
