Thanks for that Mark, much appreciated! I’ve spoken perhaps with the same guy and he’s asking 450 euros! I must admit to being a bit more apprehensive now about taking this car on.

that is a bargain what ever transmission it has ... I'm sure the seller must know there is a problem with the transmission? Have you asked him?

There is a cvt guide on 300 mania I believe. Belts I'm pretty sure are available from born built beauties. If the car is immaculate then don't let a potential problem that isn't even there yet put you off as the rest of the car is mint. |

I would not be surprised if there were multiple faults with the CVT unless an enthusiast owned it and kept it going properly ..but it has to be driven first to see the state of affairs ...

Clan has summed it up well, the CVT can be an acquired taste and doesn't operate like a conventional torque converter style gearbox, but I certainly enjoyed the one I drove briefly.
Ideal for a hobbyist, there are a select few people that understand the system, but personally I'd buy the car and drive it - it'll be fairly obvious if something is wrong, ie. very high rpm at low speeds. If you get stuck post here or on the Volvo 300 Mania forum/facebook group. Don't rev it in park too |

Thanks!
Guys, thanks for all the feedback and advice on this one, but I feel it’s a bit too ‘niche’ for me, especially from a future resale perspective. I’m sure it’s a decent buy, and I can reassure you it’s not far from concourse potential (the pictures most certainly don’t do it justice). The guy has relayed it on eBay and here’s the link:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/x/264481966625 Good luck! |
