I've been asking my volvo dealer to update my maps for the last couple of years without success. I understand that I'll need to update the software before I can update maps via USB.
I've just purchased the software from Germany to upgrade my nav system - Eur 96.00 inc shipping.
Should be a simple software update followed by map download to USB - I'll let you know how things pan out.

That's because they won't update maps. They will update the car's software (if needed) so that you can update maps yourself via a USB stick loaded with the new map version downloaded from the Volvo website.

If they wouldn't have updated the car's software to the necessary level, I'd have found new dealer. Mine was more than happy to do it, though it was chargeable.

Good luck with the DIY approach, though.

Oh! I once paid about EUR 50 to get it done by my local Volvo dealer.

I was quoted £60 for the system upgrade but when they came to do it they found that the unit could not accept the download and it was replaced free of charge under the Volvo warranty and so I didn't have to pay for the upgrade. I thought I was onto a winner but now Volvo strike back and declare that the next map upgrade will be the last so the system software will become irrelevant!
