Default C70 - Retrofitting cruise control and info centre

There are numerous threads on here going back many years about the pro's & con's of retro-fitting cruise control and info centre into the C70.

I know because I searched and have probably read every one of them!

My 2004 C70 Collection lacked the info centre and cruise control. The former was only ever an option on the Collection but the cruise should have been standard so I have no idea why it was missing on this car.

I wanted both extras! Knowing it was only half the job I bought the correct stalk and info switch - then balked at the likely software costs.

However, there was advice on here that, since with the ME7 engine the cruise is ECU controlled, changing to an instrument cluster with the software installed would make the cruise control work. Some people seemed to doubt this...

So the purpose of this thread is to confirm to anyone else thinking about an upgrade that it DOES work.

I took a chance on a 2005 C70 instrument cluster, swapped it over, and hey presto not only do I now have working cruise control (having replaced a faulty clutch pedal position sensor) but also a working info centre.

OK, the mileage is wrong (22,000 less now showing!) but I can live with that - I have fully documented the change and recorded the true mileage, and unless and until I sell the car on, who cares?

Perhaps there are no other doubters left these days, but hopefully this is helpful to someone!

It works but vida will tell you it is a different car..... and you need to make sure the engine config is the same as your MPG etc will be out

I put a petrol head unit in a diesel car and the MPG was great apparently

I'd have thought a petrol unit in a diesel car would've shown an mpg drop...?

It's a good point though - it was a 2005 2.0T so the same as mine!!

The car is unlikely to get near VIDA, certainly in any way that it thinking it's a different car should make any difference.

Overall, yes there are certain cons - but as a cheap fix to get things working on a day-to-day basis it beats several hundred pounds at a dealer!

It was a while ago so may be wrong but seem to remember doing a lot of 99mpg

I think the value is based on injection time as I have changed the injectors on my T5 and mapped the ecu to take them & the mpg has gone up in that as well!
