D5 D5244T - Cuts out and low fuel pressure
Hello, I have fixed one problem on my S60 to uncover another (seems to be a trend with this car).
It had a rough idle and severely fluctuating fuel pressure, with occasional limp mode whilst driving (Error code P0094 fuel system leak - small leak detected) I replaced the fuel pressure sensor on the end of the rail and the problem was solved. no more limp mode. However after a 200 mile trip on the weekend to York, it cut out suddenly pulling away at traffic light, with 'engine system service urgent' but this time the engine lost all power and stalled. Code reported is 'P0087 Fuel rail/system pressure too low' I replaced the fuel filter 4 months ago It has kept doing this since, and only ever does it when pulling away in 1st or 2nd gear. Never any other time, even under heavy acceleration in other gears. I removed the regulator to check it when I did the sensor and since the problem was solved by a new sensor I just put it back. Has anyone else had anything like this before? Thanks. |

Check the resistance of the pressure sensor and the pressure regulator
Check the crappy connectors and repair accordingly |

The connectors seem to be fine, will check resistance later. What would an acceptable reading be? I have a spare HP pump lying around so I might swap that in later to see if it changes anything |

Update to this- I replaced the HP fuel pump last night (with one out of another car), keeping the original regulator. I have not driven it much apart from back from work, but it seems to behave much better and run far smoother. Time will tell whether or not it still dies when pulling away.
At idle, the fuel pressure fluctuates betwen 5,000 and 5500psi. Is this normal? |
