Default XC90 key dongle not working

Am I right in thinking the waterproof key should just work as per the regular ones ie. if I have it on my person and touch the handles I can lock/unlock/drive as usual?

I've only tried to use it once and I think the battery may have died (bought the car at 3years old). If I'm not doing anything wrong, I may just crack it open and replace the battery, pope some silicone around the inside to maintain some level of waterproofing.

Has anyone else done this and got their dongle to work afterwards?

I replaced my sports fob battery for the second time a few months ago, it was much easier to open the second time, make sure you take note of which way round the battery goes, you don't want to put it in the wrong way up and seal it then have to do it again when it does not work.

Does the car lock automatically when the dongle is not in range? If so, what's the range?!

This thread has triggered a thought. Should my MY19 V90 (pre registered on 30/1/20 and delivered to me on 1/3/20 have come with a sports key? Normally I'd have spoken with the dealer but in these strange times...………………….
