Question '07 XC70- Haldex Service??

Hi all, just read Honest John in the Telegraph, says that Haldex units as fitted to Volvos need regular servicing viz. oil and filter change to stay in good order.

Can't find any reference in the service schedules other than "visual inspection" - presumably for fluid leaks.

Can anyone shed any light??

AG

The MY07 XC70 was the only one fitted with Haldex 3rd generation

Differs from previous generations...

That's v.interesting stuff, I'll have a good look at it. Do you know whether this unit (Gen3) needs servicing? Thanks for the info. AG

Given the job it's asked to do I'd be very surprised if it wasn't a serviceable item

Well nothing that I can see in the schedules. Think I'd better have a word with the local indy specialist. Thanks. AG

Unhappy No Volvo Haldex service

The reason there is nothing in the Volvo schedule is the exhaust is positioned in such a way that access to the filter is virtually impossible. You can do it with a specially made right angled wrench, or take off the exhaust.

The Haldex unit should have oil changed at approx 20k then filter & oil at double that.

That's v.interesting Richard, and thank you. No mention of Volvo in the sjb factsheet, maybe because of the access issues. Exhaust removal doesn't sound too bad, elsewhere I've read that a driveshaft needs to be removed. Fairly typical these days I'm afraid- don't service anything, it might last too long, just buy a new one at enormous expense. Mine's done 75k, always main agent serviced, so I doubt if it's ever been done. AG

Default Update:

E-mailed Volvo via their website- answer from "Customer Relations" (sic) completely useless, apparently there is no-one at Head Office Volvo UK who knows anything at all about servicing, all dealt with by main dealers......... words fail.

Spoke to local independent, he confirmed that servicing is necessary, and offered to drain, clean pump, fit new filter and refill for £170 inc vat. Booked in for new year. AG

The Haldex in our '07 S80 and '04 XC70 have been serviced. In my opinion, both units needed the fluid changed based upon the dark color. About 72000 miles and 92000 miles. No sparkles in the old fluid or on the filter. Fluid must be withdrawn by suction using a small 1/4" outside diameter tube wiggled down to the bottom of the unit.
