Loosen and pull out the two screws at the clip. Grap the sensor from above and rotate it to the inside of the car while not changing the level of the clip. Just like you would rotate a steering wheel clockwise. That small nipple is your rotating point. It will push a little against the vent ducts, but they are flexible enough. Don't use a hammer or other kind of hard force, these sensors are very picky...
It should give you enough room to unplug the sensor, so you can check the contacts at the sensor. For the other end I just used copressed air and Balistol to clean it. But it is a PITA to knee the whole time next to your car, I agree....
