Default Steering angle sensor repairs

So on my 2004 V70 I got the dreaded anti skid warning with internal fault error, which would come back immediately after clearing.

Reading that they have to be programmed when new and the cost of them I decided to take the thing apart and have a look at the pcb. Lots of dust was inside so i cleaned it out with an air duster.
For some reason the connectors are covered in slimy grease that gets everywhere, bet that's causing poor contact, so I removed the grease with contact cleaner, reassembled it and installed it back in the car.

This seemed to have solved the problem until the error started appearing again 2 weeks later after hard turns but it does stay cleared for a while.

In conclusion I suspect the main culprit is the pin connections on the rear of the unit making poor contact. So i may take it apart again and bend the pins slightly to make them really press into the contacts in the socket. Hopefully this could lead to a more permanent fix at a later time. However if that doesn't work, has anyone else got experience reverse engineering this unit, who could shed some light on the design of the SAS unit, such as cloning the eeprom etc in case i destroy it?
Would also like to know if anyone else has repaired these units successfully?
