Towbar
Does anyone have a picture of a towbar for a 145 please? Any images of one fitted or nor would be appreciated, I don't seem to be able to find any on the web. Also I am assuming a saloon one would be the same, plus maybe early 245?

Morwenna, I've sent you a PM.
140, I have a 1972 145 but I need a general idea of how and where they attach and that probably doesn't vary much over different years. Several different manufacturers will have made them, all slightly different I'm sure, and presumably Volvo made their own as well. Secondhand ones seem very rare and too heavy for most people to want to post, so I am considering making my own. |

Umm, well, u'd be paying postage, so don't c why folks reluctant to send. Is it not poss a 240 one would fit, or be adapted, as basically same body? I suppose originals ARE rare, as not over many 145's about. Try Scandinavia?, prob a few more over there than here.
If u make one, do use decent steel, not mild; a friend did this, the hitch got progressively nearer the ground as the journey went on. . . ! |

I will be restoring my car shortly, so towbar will be coming off, u could borrow it to copy. We a bit far apart, but folks from here go Edinborough, Dumfries, manage something.

Point taken about the quality of steel, I would expect a 245 would be similar. Postage issues are based on people's usual attitude on ebay to posting heavy car components, I haven't actually found one for sale. Just the image of one for sale might have given me a clue to the basic design and mounting points.

I have a tow bar from a 1969 144 that you could have for free. Its home made, i think. Would benefit from cosmetic refurbishment, but very solid and strong
PM if you want it For information, i think saloon and estate towbars are interchangeable, but I'm not 100% certain. The towbar for a 240 (and 1974-only 140) is very different. Volvo made significant changes to the rear bodywork when the big bumpers were introduced. Cheers John Last edited by john h; Jan 5th, 2020 at 21:16. |

Thank you John H, that's very generous of you. Could I trouble you for a picture?
