Well took a look at a car today and i must say for a 100,000 mile car it was clean it was a metalic silver alot like the one in your sig Rollingthunder.
I also am loving the fact of owning a quick car which is incredible understated. There were a few things that i was worried about the car when checking the header tank it had no water in it, i had read on here that someone was having trouble with using about 1 pint of water a week or something similar to that so it was something i looked out for, the chap top it up before we went out and it didnt need much aboiut 1 half to 2 pints. Car drove fairly nice the suspension would definately need upgrading, the temp gauge worked intimitantly but mostly not. I noticed the cool thank you button you have on here so it has been put to good use. |

water water everywhere...
If you bought the car, then keep an eye on that water level. Apart from the headgasket and radiator hoses, the 940 has a few less obvious coolant hoses that are known to fail.
First, there are a pair of heater hoses that run behind the engine to the bulkhead. They're cheap to replace but can be awkward to do. Note which one has the vacuum controlled valve, and which direction it is fitted in The other culprits hide under the oil filter - on turbo cars, the oil filter housing is water cooled - these small hockey stick shaped hoses get coated with engine oil during oil changes, and the oil rots the coolant hoses. They can be sneaky little buggers, in that the leaks are not always consistent - I had a 50 mile high speed run about a year ago, and upon parking up I lost several litres of coolant. I left the car to cool and topped it up expecting the water to pour out again - but no, nothing. I did the return journey at more moderate speed, and no leaks. In fact it barely lost any fluid for several weeks, and it took my squeezing of all the hoses to find a tiny hole. At high temperature, the pressure must have increased enough to blow out the coolant. Normal conditions didn't generate enough pressure to cause a loss. Thanks for you comments about my 940 I wish it was as clean today - its well overdue for a wash and wax! All the best RT

Well i bought the car today so am now officially a Volvo owner
I need to give it a good service so have ordered one of those double dvd's on ebay so will get to work on it over the next week. Will probably go down to my local motor factors shop to buy supplies unless anyone on here has a good web site that can supply cheap service items. Also gonna be ripping off that suspension pronto can anyone recommend where i can get hold of some decent shocks and springs, to give a nice sharp and firm ride. |

Hi,
Well done on your purchase.. Maybe join VOC for parts discounts at dealers.. Try to use volvo parts where possible, especially oil filters.. You can also get good items from GSF and partsforvolvos on line. GSF also have branches nationwide.. Enjoy your new Volvo.. Des. . .
