1988 245 GL - What A Beast!
Hi all.
Just bought a '88 245 GL B200E Manual. I bought it from the original owner with 133K miles on the clock. It has the most comprehensive service history i have ever seen (I'm in the motor trade) What a machine. I absolutely adore it. Everything is so easy to get to in that engine bay, even the metal cannister fuel filter is in the engine bay and at last, a fuel injected car where you can adjust the idle speed easily. The body is pretty good too, though the tailgate has rusted at the usual places. Anyhow, i dont know if it's me but every one i have driven has never had the best idle (This one included-especially during warm up) Everything is new on ignition/fuel side apart from the fuel pump(s?) Do these cars suffer from any common mishaps which cause poor idling/minor misfiring through the rev range? Thanks.

Could either be an air leak causing a rough idle or the engine mounts are shot.
Cheers, John.

Clean the inside of the throttle body and the bit where the air intake joins it. Does this model have an electromagnetic idle speed regulator - alloy canister under the inlet manifold, with pipes to the air intake and manifold? Very prone to sooting up, worth cleaning out at every oil change. The idling on mine (93) always improves after I clean it.
