Whats the difference between 240 & 245 Estates?
Hello all
Can anyone tell me what the difference is between the 240 and 245 estates. I am thinking of retiring my 240 estate as the screen needs replaced £350 ouch! with a locally advertised 245 estate. Thanks Chris |

RE: Whats the difference between 240 & 245 Estates?
The difference is basically age.
This is part of the Volvo naming history. The three numbers used to indicate series, cylinders and doors. For example 145 was Series 1, 4 cyl and 5 doors (estate). 265 was Series 2, 6 cyl and 5 doors (estate). 244 was Series 2, 4 cyl and 4 doors (saloon). There was a change to a new naming convention where the last digit was replaced by 0, hence 240 is a Series 2, 4 cyl vehicle but now you need to ask is it a saloon or estate. With the 240 being younger than the 245, there will probably be newer technology available.

RE: Whats the difference between 240 & 245 Estates?
Sounds like someone just called the '88 240 estate a 245 just to define it as an estate or 'cos they didn't know any better.
£350 sounds a lot for a windscreen- I got a new one (admittedly second grade with a few small bubble inclusions) fitted to my '89 240 saloon for £100 in July to get it through the MoT. Gave up on the original surround, though and just covered the gap with 2" aluminium tape painted matt black. Doesn't look too bad and the car's only worth about £300 anyway. Cheers Chris |

RE: Whats the difference between 240 & 245 Estates?
There is NO difference. Migrator is correct that this is old naming rules from Volvo which they stopped in the mid-80's but many people call a 1995 year 960 estate a 965 and so on so the answer is, there is no difference.

£100 was for "what's the cheapest you can do a screen for a Volvo 240" from Botley Windscreens near Oxford.
