Default V90 Mk1 help needed

Hi all,

I'm having some battery drain issues with my '97 V90 estate.
I have wired a multimeter in series to the positive terminal of the battery and with the ignition off it is showing a fairly hefty drain of around 1.7 amps...

Removing the third fuse from the right in the main fuse box in the engine bay gives me a more acceptable loss reading of 0.04 amps

I have checked all the fuses in the box to the right of the steering wheel but the circuits all seem fine.

Putting the car up on the ramp with the ignition off, I can hear a faint medium pitched electrical buzzing (sounds like a Rolph Harris stylophone!).
Listening with a DIY stethoscope It seems to be coming from the N/S of the gearbox sump.

Until the issue is rectified I have installed a battery cut out switch.

This is about as far as I can get.

Can anyone please help me get to the bottom of the issue?

Many thanks in advance,

Gordon

That's what I'm hoping to find out.
It's fairly heavy duty AFAIR 50amps.
Could be supply to gearbox?

Should help - not sure what fuse you are talking about but this should clarify it.

That's really helpful. Thanks.
Horns are fine as I replaced them recently. No issues with the starter, so likely not the solenoid.
So looks like it's the air pump wherever that is?

A quick trawl on Google was enough to help me identify it -it's for the emission system. I'll get the car upon the ramp again tomorrow, and see if there is a relay sticking that's causing the drain or try just disconnecting it.

I cannot find working links for Volvo electrical diagrams any more - all removed at the request of Geely no doubt, but selify.com will provide you with one for a tenner.

The fuse is referred to as 11A/6 in the diagram :

http://www.myvolvolibrary.info/Tech_..._98_Wiring.pdf

Don't ignore something just because it's relatively new, wouldn't be the first time (or the last) that a supposedly new component has failed.

Good luck.

you must do that test 15 minutes AFTER locking the car , It should shut down then and give you the reading you expect 50 ma or less probably ..

Sorry forget that i thought you had a new V90 !
