Default Electronic Handrake

Is there a setting that I have missed?

My Volvo, unlike others with Electronic Handbrakes that I have driven seem's a bit thick.

When I drive off it will release automatically, but it does not seem to apply automatically when I leave the car. I'd like to think it's clever enough to do this itself as I keep forgetting...

Similar comment to the reverse of auto-locking. If the car auto-locks, I then get out to remove something from the boot - pulling on the door handle twice to exit. I'll then get to the boot to find the car's still blooming locked.... grr.

Anyone?

Cheers

The handbrake does not auto apply , if you owned a citroen which does, then you will realise you are lucky :-)

You will soon get used to these two things you have mentioned .

I too would have liked an auto ON handbrake. The VW Passat has one.
But then I would have liked a opening boot glass window too, like my BMW tourer had. I suppose you can't have everything

One which I found incredibly annoying. Unfortunately it's opinion of when I'd come to a stop and physics's opinion of when I'd come to a stop were slightly different. When approaching any set of traffic lights slowing the car and then trying to stop smoothly was rudely interrupted with a neck-twinging jerk as the passat decided it was handbrake time.

That sounds worse still, I used to have a Renault scenic that would put on the handbrake when you shut the engine off. This seemed quite sensible and I was quite surprised that newer cars with electric handbrakes don't do this?

This would have been handy last week when I pulled up at the garage to buy a paper, came out to see car gone PANIC!!!, van at pump moves and I see my car in the hedge at back of garage, thankfully totally unscathed as the garage was virtually level.

I'm sure when I bought it I was told it auto set when you locked the doors (I didn't) but I haven't tested that, once bitten twice shy etc.....

Same here, I wonder why they do not auto apply when parking up. Anybody know why?

Lol...sorry for laughing, but I have been in a similar position. I was so used to an electric handbrake automatically applying that I used to forget to put the handbrake on when driving cars with a normal handbrake lever. Helped a lot that generally speaking I always leave a car in gear. Always used to forget to apply the Volvo EPB as well. Still not 100% on remembering to apply it even now after nearly 5 years. Perhaps I should not be driving...lol..??

Regards

My last car had a foot operated parking brake. After almost 5 month's of Volvo ownership, I still lift my left leg to apply the non-existent pedal. I hate the positioning of the XC60 parking brake button, what's wrong with the between the seat location?

Incidentally, my son in law's company leases VW's and last winter they had 8 failed EPB.
