Noticing a steady drip of oil from the breather pipe.Should this happen and as I expect not what would cause it? The breather cap on valve cover has been cleaned. Would it be caused by the new rings needing to bed i? The bores were honed

Arcturus;

Again, I'm not B16 expert, but oil from breather could be in part caused by higher blow-by during ring seating...I recall Breather Pipe is located on one of the Lifter-covers...does the B16 Breather Pipe have any filler condensation material like the B18 Oil-Filler cap, to promote oil condensation or to help catch airborne droplets?...or an up-then-down shape to allow any caught oil to in there to drain back into engine opposed to being lost? Is Crankcase possibly overfilled? Can you post picture of Breather Pipe?

How much of a steady drip?...can you catch and measure amount/engine run-time...maybe you should route this overflow into a catch-can during break-in...maybe some other B16 owners can chime in with experience beyond my general comments...

Cheers

Arcturus;

I looks like there's no gravity/catch loop or Oil Trap, like on OCV B18s...:

Source: https://www.sw-em.com/pcv_diagrams_and_notes.htm

...so I wonder if a certain amount of oil loss was typical (only a B16 owner can answer this...not I!), and this is one reason the factory made these changes for the B18...also, when you had that Breather Tube off during rebuild, was it just open or did it have any condensation promoting filler (probably not of much value because the direction of flow of gases would cause any droplets which got caught to go down the tube, not back into the engine anyway)...
You might consider remaking the tube with a gravity/catch loop, ala B18 design...then you'll be keeping your oil in the crankcase where it belongs, not loosing it, one drop at a time, on the roads of Portugal!

Cheers

Working on the hypothesis that the pressure and oil drip is due to rings needing to bed in This is a temporary fix.Re positioned breather pipe.Will review after three or four hundred km.

Hello George.
The anti-splash sheet metal is on the inside of the cover where the breather pipe is??

Good luck, good night, Kay

I'm sure it's OK but will double check. Parts book shows it at the bottom.

arcturus;

A missing "anti-splash" provision might very well explain your oil-loss! I suggest you check for this.

Cheers
