Don’t worry about the oil, I try and look after stuff. Now where’s that sawdust? 😂

Other than an oil flush treatment when I got the car, no snake oils have been near it. If the wynns stuff is proven, I’ll probably give it a go before delving into the innards/ doing something silly!

Can't remember the spec of the oil, other than it's a 5W30 which was recommended for the engine.

I know sense should come into it and I should lift the rocker cover to see what's going on.....

Well if you have a euro 3 and have used B5 in it, that wont help... Worth checking... (You may use B4 in an engine specced B5, but you shouldnt use B5 in an engine specced B4)

Ok, it’s a B5 - what does that mean? I only understand the weight bit.

The main difference between B4 and B5 is the HTHS value, which is a complicated thing to uderstand, but ill try and simplify it!
The hths is the viscosity of the oil under load/high temp in an engine, which doesnt align with the hot static viscosity (the number on the label after 'w'). Although the can may say 30 or 40, the viscosity of the oil under load in the engine is different, thus the flow rate and hydrodynamic oil cushion keeping bearing surfaces apart are directly affected by this value, the hths value. A B4 has to have a hths value of over 3.5, whereas a B5 the value is 2.9-3.4. The lower hths of a b5, in an engine designed to use it, can lower internal drag from the oil, thus enhance fuel economy (to a small degree) and as such, emmisions too. In an engine not designed for it, it can allow metal to metal contact more readily, behave differently in hydraulic function, lower oil pressure, etc.
It is a much more important and relevant value than the static viscosity, which is only a guide and a leftover from a bygone age.
Confusingly, due to how oils behave as a result of the base oil and polymers forming them, you can actually have both 30 and 40 oils (for example) with the same hths, thus, are actually identical in the same circumstances despite their different conventional viscosity! This is why, for example, some manufacturer specs dont state grades, just specs, thus a Dexos 2 for example (vauxhall) can be 0w30, 5w30, 5w40 as the spec requires a certain hths not a static viscosity.
So, if your engine requires B4, and is filled with B5, you may, possibly, get an improvement from B4 (though you may not, a B5 could be 3.4 and the replacement B4 coukd be 3.5, thus negligible difference (but if the B5 is 2.9 and B4 3.68, theres a significant difference)) Regardless B5 didnt ought to be used if B4 is required.
If your engine is euro 4, its B5, you can still use B4 (due to it being of sturdier function), but if euro 3, B4 only.

This would be a good one to try if you do wish to change oil again. Its got a good hths of around 3.6-3.7 iirc, and lots of people have said it has helped dampen down noise in subaru's, porsches, pocket-rockets etc where they need a strong oil due to performance/tuning etc. Yet its very easy on the pocket.

I think it will be having another oil change and some of that lifter treatment. The inside of the engine will be spotless at this rate 😂

Just to mention, is it possible it’s a dribbling injector?
At the risk of teaching mother’s mother to pull a vacuum on chicken ovulations, a tappet that’s noisy will be noisy regardless of speed and engine load. An injector thats dirty will produce a very similar noise, but only sounds as the engine accelerates, as soon as you let off the accelerator, the noise disappears instantly. On overrun it’ll go quiet totally until the engine reaches idle...
