Default 2005 V70 Parking Sensors

The rear parking sensors on my 2005 V70 D5 stopped working recently and the car’s computer keeps telling me that the parking assistance needs a service. Anyone any idea if this is a big job and if it is best left to my local independent mechanic?

Have read that you can the sensors buzzing (very high pitch) when they are on. Listen for the one that doesn’t - unless the system is clever enough to kill them all when it detects a fault.

the sensors vibrate at 40 khz which is twice as much as a very best human ear can hear ..
