If only from cold I'll hazard a guess at it being an exhaust manifold or downpipe gasket. Check all studs are present and look for hairline cracks in the manifold and turbo.

If it happens on every start then it's probably something more sinister, as Clan says, such as the turbo compressor damaged or something failing on the cam belt side.
It seems to be only when cold.

Well , it seems it is either the variable cam pulley or the turbocharger , I have heard a turbocharger sound like that before ... Try taking the turbo inlet hose off and push and pull the turbine wheel inside , there should be no in and out axial play but there should be a small amount of up and down radial play ..
Variable cam pulley, is that the vanos? to the left of the two upper wheels?
You mean the wheel itself or* the unit that is screwed ontop of the engine?

Update: took a gamble and drove it to park it at work.
The noise was there as usual at start but 3-4 minutes into the ride it was gone. The car went smooth and everything was as it supposed to be. The oil-pressure lamp came on and off "blinking" sporadically.

Was not a hard drive tho as I didn't dare but 70 km/h was driven at least and I was driving for a total of 10-15 minutes.

I wonder what this darned noise can be
