Default Engine / Electrical - V70 wont start - no rpm read

Hi Everyone,
Ive a tail of despair with my 2008 v70 2.4 D5. 185bhp auto

After 1 Specialist Garage, 1 Electronics specialist & one local Garage have thrown £800 of parts at the old girl (well 2008 and 150K) . They concluded its the Engine ECU... A plug and play programmed ECU later and its still got the same fault.

On turning over the engine turns but the ecu sees no RPM. so is not firing the Injectors. Its had just about everything changed (some parts needed, others not). Crack sensor on the right side of the engine has been changed.

Is there anything you can think of that I need to check. Im more used to spannering Chevy v8's than oil burners. Any ideas greatly received with thanks.
