Brake problems
Hi, i have just done a full brake overhaul on my 2.0 V40 , new discs and pads front and rear, and new callipers on the front, complete fluid change and bleed , yet my brake pedal still goes down a fair way when the engines running, Engine off, the pedal is firm and right at the top,
When I blead it, I went RL, RR, FL FR , the car does stop ok but there is a lot of travel, Is this normal for these cars ? should I check my servo valve? the old fluid was very dark, so i suspect had not been changed for some time or does that indicate possible weak master cylinder seals? Any past owners had this issue with their cars? |

I find the pedal travels slightly more on my S40 than many other vehicles I've driven or drive regularly but I wouldn't say it's noticeable as such, and again it doesn't affect braking performance or anything

Did you bleed the system with the ignition on? I recently bled the system on my daughters V40 and googled to check. Apparently the ignition needs to be on to open the valves in the ABS block.

However it could also be a faulty master cylinder, a faulty servo would make the pedal harder to press so I don't think its that.

The ABS valves won't open with just the ignition on, they only open when it activates, either through a computer to the ECU or when the brakes lock up.
