Default New 480 celebaration owner. Yay!!

Howdy fellow Volvo owners!

Just recently purchased a 480 celebration with an auto box. However, there I need some guidance please. The dreaded speedo cable has been removed as it was perished. Got an auto electrician to patch it up for me and says it should be ok now. However, took it to the garage to get it fitted as I don't have the right jack and the mechanic says it's the wrong sensor. However, he says it has a different mounting point and takes a cable.

Now my brain is fried!

I have read all the threads, on this forum and the 480 euro forum but I am none the wiser, guys!

Please help, buddies!

All 480 cars are electronics sensors they are NOT cable driven.

Look behind the gearbox, there should be a socket or if its still there, a cable that leads up to the bulkhead just as though it goes in underneath the triangular fuse box.

If its not cable driven im not sure what you ned to look for

Edit: the Oracle has spoken (glasgowjim)

Hi and welcome.
I have Celeb no. 269 myself

The auto speedo pick up is on the bell housing, below the starter, and is a pig to get to.

As far as I know, the sensors are unavailable new. I need one myself, as mine is kiffed

Just a thought, if you get instant and average MPG figures on the info centre, then your speedo pickup is fine and the fault lies in the speedo head.

Steve

Oh, don't be giving Jim a big head now Andrew!
