Default Ambient temperature sensor.

Hi, the dashboard ambient temperature display on my '06 XC70 seems to have become 'political' in the last few days in that it has developed a very casual relationship with the truth and is showing 10 degrees or so lower than the actual temp.
Do the readings from the sensor in the drivers mirror affect anything else in the car,or can I safely put it on the 'to do' list for when it's not going to rain for the forseeable future?

Cheers

John

I believe the temperature on the dash is indeed measured by the sensor in the left mirror (at least on LHD cars). This sensor is also used by the engine management, so good idea to have it replaced. Some say there's also a second sensor in the right mirror, but not sure.

When I bought my S60 the display was at least 10degrees out. It felt like it affected the engine tickover as well as the a/c heat levels. It was a quick job for Volvo to replace the sensor (passenger mirror- small knob below the mirror near the hinge) Not too expensive and probably an easy DIY fix.
As stated, it must be used to inform the engine management system what the outside temperature is and adjust the running accordingly.
