Default Blower Motor Defective

S60 2004. Internal blower motor defective. Can anyone recommend a new replacement or should I go for a good second hand unit. Ive been advised that the cheap new replacements on Ebay are not worth considering

These may die but rarely, rather seize. Usually it's the controller unit that goes bad. Maybe try a used one from breakers ? S60 V70 XC70 all the same I believe (XC90 is different)

Had the same problem earlier this year.
I got a replacement (2nd hand OEM ) blower from ebay for about £30.

But what had actually failed was the resistor which is fitted to the blower motor and can be replaced separately to the motor.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/8693262-917.../dp/B072HT3MR4

Also available from ebay as a new non OEM part.

If you replace the blower motor with a second hand unit I would strongly recommend buying a new replacement resistor and fit it to the used blower motor.

Thumbs up

This is the volvo OEM blower motor model (for Right Hand Drive cars):

BEHR HELLA SERVICE 8EW 009 159-631.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Car-Engin...ior/B00BNYKTO4

Really low price at the moment....def worth it over the spurious versions...

Actually, just to add this is the corresponding genuine OEM resistor:

BEHR HELLA SERVICE 5HL 351 321-231

https://www.amazon.co.uk/SERVICE-321...HL+351+321-231

Spurious CHN ones not worth the grief of having to do them twice...

If that is the OEM blower motor that is a steal!
But I would double check it includes the resistor.

My blower fan isn't blowing either.

I have a couple of questions...

Is it possible to check whether it's the motor or resistor that is faulty? Can you test this in situ or remove them then bench test them?

Do people consider that it's better to buy secondhand original parts rather than non OEM replacements? The secondhand parts would be at least 12 years old now and looking at ebay only slightly cheaper than non OEM replacements.

There seems to be a range of non OEM parts available ranging from very cheap to not much different to the Behr Hella parts linked to in this thread. I'm sure some of them may be rubbish but surely not all.

Any recommendations for brands for non OEM blower motors, or retailers of non OEM parts?

Also...

Does CHN mean not OEM? (I Googled it but didn't find it)

And...

dgmacc: How do you know...?

Thanks

not strictly the same thing but I fitted the cheapest starter motor from ECP and it was slightly fatter so didnt fit in the gap intended.

So go for a high quality brand or genuine volvo - e.g Bosch
