Default 12,000 mle service / annual Service Advise.

Hi All,
Just need some advise regarding a 12,000 / Annual service on my P2 163 bhp diesel V70.
Fact or fiction.
I have owned the car for 4 years and kept up the 12 month annual service schedule averaging 9,500pa However, this year I have only covered 6,000 miles. In conversation with my 'Indie' mechanic I suggested to leave the service schedule until March 2020 to co-inside with my MOT.
They, stated the (Castrol 0- 30) oil change should not go beyond 12,000 or 12 months as the chemicals within the oil breakdown furthermore, the Castrol oil they use and comes in drums has better emulsifiers as opposed to Castrol 0-30 you can purchase off the shelf from your local car parts supplier.

Your thoughts on this.

Default Oil....

I'm pretty sure that you cannot get the Volvo approved Castrol spec any longer ie 0w30 A3/B4. I believe that maybe only Total Quartz is available to that spec. However there are other A3/B4 specs of a slightly different but acceptable viscosity available ie 0w40 or 5w40. Others on the forum are much better qualified to inform you compared to myself. I suggest that you do a search and you will find it all out chapter and verse.
HTH,
Nobby

12 month oil change is a line in the sand for me. Don't care who says what.

I own a T5 which is a clean burning engine and the oil is dark enough for a change at around 9 months.

No way would I wait any longer than that on a diesel

Does convenience, resource savings and leaving your 12K services undisturbed make it smart to do just an oil drain & fill?

It'd get you to March. Why not?

I probably only do 4000 miles in my D5 a year and that gets a change every spring with decent quality oil.
