Question Sad but if only?

Being a hands on kinda bloke i do like to dream up strange ideas and only wished i had a workshop to implement them.

WHAT IF i could make my old 240 dl(E reg) four wheel drive,i know it doesnt really need it but it would be different?

WHAT IF i could make my 240 se into a limo estate that sure would fulfill the ever demanding load space(my wife, two teenage daughters, two large dogs and a caravan, plus luggage).

WHAT IF i had the time to cut the back off of my old 240 dl (B reg)and make it into a pickup truck?(instead of it just being used as a shed at the moment)

WHAT IF i bolted my caravan straight on top of my volvo
Ah well back to the drawing board(in my dreams).
Any one else had similar crazy ideas lets hear them dont be shy!

I would like to do the following if i had the time, skills and money:

Make the fron end of my 240 more pleasing to the ladies. Something like an expensive headlight replacement, i'm thinking along the lines of Mercedes or Land Rover.

Also i would put a V8 or V12 with a nice sounding exhaust on it.

I would also replace the Carb with a Webber replacement, get someone to do my window tinting properly and 19 inch rims filling the arches.

If you ever bolt your caravan onto the back of your volvo then please post a photo! But seriously - a number of years ago I saw a converted 240 estate in Belgium - it was fitted with one of those fibreglass caravenette type setups the kind designed to fit on pick up trucks. It looked as though someone had chopped off most of the roof and body sides - they had smoothed the join with filler and resprayed everything - tt looked pretty good but I suspect it was very cramped with limited head room. Whilst I am on this subject I remember reading in a caravan magazine 10 or so years ago of a company near Southampton that would convert any make of estate into a caravenet - for a price!

I followed a Beetle which had a "shed" (for want of a better description) grafted onto the back along US550 - the fabled Million Dollar Highway from somewhere north of Red Mountain Pass down (several thousand feet) miles of hairpin bends to Ouray and was fed up with the sight of it as overtaking was impossible! No pictures unfortunately .................

Hi

The 4 wheel drive thing would be great just a few problems with that.

1, you'd need a transfer box and gearbox less you made a conversion to your gearbox.
2, you'd need a pair of prop balanced and fitted to each axle by a diff.
3, you'd need some kind of hi/lo option so it could run full 4x4 or diff locked otherwise it would run 70/30 or 60/40
4, the tunnels would need modifications
If you could do all this it would be great and wouldn't be to expensive to do either.

Charlotte

I just want to stick a V8 in my 760 Estate.

I was considering 'Crew cabbing' my 740 Estate and fitting a pick up liner and tail to the boot.

Missus wasnt too keen on the idea, but the kids thought it rocked! She still refuses to let me do it. Dunno why.....
