Volvo extended warranty price also includes Volvo Assist which would probably cost £60 or so from the AA or RAC. Cover is the same as the existing warranty from new.

I chose to pay monthly for which there is no extra charge.

If you keep it serviced at Volvo (mine's on the 5 year plan) don't you get this anyway ?

My quote is £395 for a14 plate XC60 D4 FWD (VEA).

Yes, that's what I thought. Certainly applied to my V50 which I ran for just over 5 years.

Fault traced to blocked Lambda probe.
Probe cleaned and replaced.

Since getting the Amber warning, I have found that another V90 D4 owner has experienced a similar problem.
Yesterday, I read that Volvo have decided to use AdBlue:

Will this finally resolve EGR and Sensor problems?

Hi all
Having just put a deposit on a 2014 d4 se nav, With a main dealer, I have asked them if the car has had the egr changed or not.
I await a reply.
Running the vin through the Volvo online check, it shows no outstanding issues.....
Surely this will be on the vehicles history with Volvo?

Do we know how many were effected its this issue, I have trawled through this large post, but cannot see that info !

If it has a full Volvo service history, the dealer should be able to tell you.

No-one really knows exactly how many of the D4 engined cars had EGR component replacements as it was never a full recall. This was because in the vast majority of cases, the EGR problem did not affect the car's performance or economy in any way: all that the driver knew was the 'check engine light' came on, and they would get an in-dash message.

Some owners experienced reduced performance, and a very small number had their cars go into limp-home mode.

My own 2014 D4 SE had three trips to the dealer for EGR issues in three years: one complete valve and cooler replacement, one cooler replacement, and then the 'definitive' cooler fix. I never had a performance issue.

But based on owners' experiences here and on other forums, I'm willing to bet that the EGR problem affected ALL D4 VEA-engined cars made from 2014 to 2016. Volvo was lucky that in the majority of cases, the problem did not disable the car so it was only a mild inconvenience for owners (unlike the Mercedes-Benz / Siemens diesel injector fiasco of a few years ago).

Thanks for the info.
It has been fully Volvo serviced and it covered by a 12 month select warranty, I have yet to see how that plays out.....
I will see what they come back with on the history.

I sold mine recently with full Volvo history and the paperwork for the final EGR fix. I cheekily spoke to a dealer who had one for sale similar to mine to check if theirs had been done. They replied that ‘this one had been driven like a diesel should so wouldn’t have had any issues”. Told me everything about what I was up against.

I would not buy one without the paperwork confirmation or printout from Volvo that it had the final fix. It’s a £800 job.
