Default Head Unit Replacement

I need to change the head unit in my 2009 XC90, how do I find the part number I need? There are several different part numbers listed on eBay

Read out what you have with VIDA, it shows you the hardware part numbers

Or remove the radio and read the part number from the label

Be aware that 2nd hand replacement units will not work in your car (part of the anti-theft programming in the radio and vehicle), unless the security system is disabled.

Brand new units come uncoded from the factory and must be programmed to your car by the dealer when fitted.

Or course, if you are buying a 2nd hand radio as a source of spare hardware parts to repair your own radio, then you don't have to worry about coding, as long as you reuse your own radio main board.

You get the dealer to upload the software application that disables it

but you'd be lucky to find someone who does as it is all logged at volvo HQ they know who did it , where they did it and what time they did it ,. Disabling the security system is only available legitimately for volvo workshop testing procedures .

I found a firm in Rainham that repairs the units, I’m supposed to be picking up later

Will let you know how good they were

Let us have some idea of what the problem is. We have no idea based on the posts in this thread if your problem is a failed illumination light bulb or something more dramatic.

To be fair I understand. His head unit had failed, he is replacing,

It ain’t that hard to follow :-)

Yes it is hard - it would help everyone to know the fault symptoms.

Is it a complete failue (won't power on) or intermittent failure (of what? Radio? Cd? Cd Changer? MD? Display?
Or something else entirely?

A lot of things can be encompassed with "it failed"

Swiss

It's not a complete fauilure. Exit button hasn't been working for 12+ months, but recently Phone button stopped working and Phone will not connect (MyCar is unavailable). All other functions are fine.

The guy I took it to fixed the Exit button but couldn't fix the Phone issue, according to him it's disabled but will not re-enable, he showed me on his laptop.

I went on holiday the next day, he was going to check with someone at Volvo what might be causing the issue
