xc90 turbo removal

hi there i have a 54 plate d5 168bhp awd xc90 auto
i need to remove the turbo as the actuator needs replacing {non electric} vacuum type ,and wondering if anyone could give me advice on above job please can it be removed from top or does transfer box have to be removed .anyway advice needed cheers all Lee

It comes out of the bottom. You have to remove the angle gearbox. Check the splined sleeve whilst you are there.

(You might just be able to get it out the top if you rotate the engine forwards. I believe some have managed it)

If you only want to replace the actuator, do you have to get it all the way out?
