When I insured my new car all my insurance company were interested in was the value not the detailed specification.
What insurance company please

I got a quote from aviva for my new v40 on order with the polestar upgrade and it'll cost me an extra £50-£60 they'll told me it'll basically be 10% of my annual premium. I personally always declare everything to insurance companies so that if anything did happen they can't refuse to pay out on the grounds of a void policy because of undeclared modifications!

I know this is an old thread... however, it may be worth noting, that as Insurance companies (and indeed a lot of companies involved in verbal contracts do) keep recordings of the conversations you have with them... when asked the question "Not that I am aware of" will cover you as you are not lying, and at the same time not saying yes. How the agent on the other end of the phone determines the outcome of that conversation, as a representative of said insurance company / broker, is their issue. Just keep a record of what you said to answers you are not wholly unsure about.

Stand your ground with them too, they will try and worm their way out at every turn.

Reason I say this, I had a Mini 1275 GT about 12 years ago. It was a one owner car, in original condition with upgraded (at point of sale) Innocenti Centreless wheels.

A scutter type decided to steal it and burn it out after ragging it around for a weekend. Yes, I was heartbroken. I'd spent 4 continuous months restoring it and repairing A pillars with new, etc etc.

When it came to insurance pay out time, they tried to negate the whole affair (make that payout) due to the non-standard wheels even though they were original to the car at purchase from the dealer in 1972. The assessor even rang me and told me I knew nothing about Minis as every 1275 was sold with minilites, which in 1972 was rowlocks. At this point I'd only owned 15 or so Minis for the previous 14 years, lol.

The orignal bill of sale was eventually presented after much to-ing and fro-ing and they had little choice but to pay up. Unfortunately no where near what it was worth, and miles away from what I'd paid for it and the work done. I effectively got scrap value for it. 5 years later the price of Mini sky rocketed. Aaaah well, c'est la vie.

When I insured my car last month with Admiral they said as it was a manufacturer fit there was no extra charge. Premium was £165.
2015 XC60 D5 auto SE Lux nav dsp winter pack polestar.
Should add that this is a multi car policy.

Was it not simply a case that Polestar is a model variation such as R-Design/SE etc in their eyes and they quote it as such?

Does anyone know, if you buy a used car, how to find out if it's had polestar?

Ask any dealer. Ask Polestar. Normally they have a blue badge on the back if they are a Polestar version.

When I bought my car I told them about the Polestar remap.
Their reply was because it was a manufacturers extra there would be no additional cost to my premium of £165.20.

What if you buy used and don't know about the remap?
