Hello, Since the alarm unit has its own batteries I would think removal of he car's battery would have no effect. I never heard of the car's battery providing any trickle charge to the alarm. I do believe the alarm's batteries are lithiums and wouldn't be rechargeable. Additionally, after 12 years, there's a chance the alarm's batteries are dead. Alas, you have to verify my conclusions. The alarm system will take current and power from the main system.

The batteries inside the alarm are a backup incase some "thief" decided to disconnect your battery in the hopes the siren wouldnt go off whilst the car is armed.

If the power is cut and the backup batteries are activated, the siren would automatically sound as it would presume some under hand tactics are in operation

I believe its a thatcham requirement to have a battery backup for the alarm, just like a decent home system.

You can leave the battery off as long as you like and it shouldnt cause any alarm problems as the remote and transponder codes are rolling and they "remember" which code they last used.
