Default Remote fob stopped working?

Morning All,

This morning my remote key fob decided to stop working so am no longer able to lock, or unlock, the car without using the key in the door lock. How quaint...

Tried my spare and same result. Nada.

Put new batteries in less than a month ago so feel that it is a car side issue rather than the key.

Looking for any pointers on where to start or has anybody else had the same issue and magically cured it.

Thanks in advance.

My cure... it worked for me after many 'fob hassles':
  • Go to that well known auction site and order a spray can of electrical contact cleaner
  • Take the fob apart, remove the circuit board and blow out any accumulated 'trouser pocket fluff'
  • Spray the pcb liberally with the said electrical contact cleaner
  • Decant some cleaner into a small glass dish (or similar) and soak the circuit board for a couple of hours
  • Remove the board and 'blast' it with the spray - particularly where the buttons are
  • Allow the board to air dry
  • Reassemble the fob
  • Bob's you uncle?
Worth noting... The contact spray fumes may be hazardous; so do the job in the garage/garden shed or out of doors!

Thanks for the tip. I have some electrical cleaner from working on my much older cars so will give that a try.

I will report back if Fanny is my Aunt.

One thing that is nagging in the back of my head though is both fobs were working and now both aren't.... mmmm....

Any other thoughts?

Whoops! Sorry, I didn't notice that both fobs were giving the same trouble. My fault

I tried the suggested possible solution but it failed for me (sorry Chris!) which leads me to think it's the antenna in the dash. I've no idea how to change it though...
