Here you go Graham. Just bare in mind = this is the prototype, used on the cover of the accessory brochure. as you can see on my grill,s do the spots not sit so far out on the production model (no room for them in that position) so Volvo moved them in a little bit. |

Did Volvo just cut a hole in the standard grille and crimp in an anodised ring?

Thanks Jens, that looks neat. I like the look of them flush with the grill, and a close fit around the lens. I have a spare set of chrome headlight rings but they are a bit big for the spots I plan to use. Should be able to find something suitable at an autojumble though. Will let you know how I get on (if it looks presentable).

Hi,
got a few questions today, hope this helps = there could have been a grill kit for the 1800 ? as they are SOO rare, and the 1800,s are also very rare, so who knows ? There is a simelar brochure for the 140 series, so I cant see why the 1800 couldnt have had one too ? I have obviusly never seen one, but maybe the guys in the 1800 section will know ? The brochure for Amazon & 140 are very rare, infact all Volvo accessoy brochures are. I started collecting original accessories back in 1983/4 and found a lot of good stuff back then. The grill,s I have are the only & same set I saw on a car in the mid 80ies. Unfortunally was spots & brackets gone, these took me another 26(app) years to find. So who knows ? maybe there is a 1800 grill with spot lights "lurking" somewhere Cheers Jens Christian |

Irv Gordon with the 3 million mile 1800 had spots fitted behind the early type 1800 grille. Don't know at what mileage they were fitted. Yes the grille will confuse the light but enough will get through to make them still effective. Also protected back there from rocks. bad parkers and thieves so mostly a plus set-up.

Yes thats something I have seen on Amazon,s too.
Its nice to make something on your own. Someone posted this picture on fb, of a car with what seems to be an original Golde sunroof. I tried to write the guy & ask about the car but no more came of it These sunroofs are very rare. |

Haven't seen pics of that type of Golde sunroof before - however, a member on here has an Amazon saloon with a Golde metal sliding sunroof. Are those also rare? It's certainly a very high quality installation.
Btw, was the book you referred to with the pic of the spotlamps in the grille the Gunther & Wolf one? Also, I have this pic that I found online of a pair of those grilles - based on what you said about the shaping differences, are these ones genuine, or copies?

Then there were the metal sliding roof, that was operated with a rotating handle, or electric. I have seen all types. Quote:
Yes thats a genuine set, when I say "different shape" I maybe confused some people, I meant that the slats have a different shape (more sharpe in the finish) and the anodising is also a bit more gloss compared to a stock grill. Last edited by JC T ONE; Apr 23rd, 2016 at 09:12. |
