The listing says its from an '08, brief search shows fits 08-12. doubt it would be any use on a '99. All the P2 stuff went crazy with can bus and coding parts to a specific car so you can't swap them anyway.

Ooops I typed in 1999 remote receiver and that came up, didn't notice the date just it was a white box as was mentioned previously.

This looks more like it perhaps?

That why I went back to the P1 cars after a brief flirtation with an 06 V70R, nightmare stuff.

The part number doesn't match but it looks the same, detection frequency is the same, connector is the same. so it might work, might not.
Funny the advert lists it as a '99 v40 but here https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/p.../30857627.html its listed as '00-'04 v40 and says nothing about any v70. so might be a stretch.

I would suggest you find out what your reciever part number is and try to find a replacement by matching the part number. If you are trying to diagnose a fault by swapping parts its not much use if you aren't sure that the replacement is compatible! If you can get it out from behind the dash to check the number it might be worthwhile to test with the fob close range? might help diagnostically? shot in the dark really.

Have you checked over the wiring from the central locking box? if you have a multimeter it might be worth making sure before spending any money on it!

Thanks. I just got my ABS unit sorted yesterday so planned to look this coming Saturday. Now somethings cropped up I need to go to Ireland, doh!

Brought some tools into work to see if I can have a nosey behind the panels in my lunch break. Ill look in the drivers kneepad first then if the receiver is not there behind the glove box.

You can see (and work) behind the knee pad without needing to remove anything.

Knees in a good condition and a flexible neck would mean you could kneel down outside the door and peer up into the depths of the gloom behind the panel.

The dead giveaway to which is the module is the huge green plug. It is held in position by a couple of clips.

Thanks very much for that, was struggling today between 2 parked cars, have a feeling the driveway would be better tonight even if by torchlight.

Thanks to advice from you guys my CL is working, well mostly.

The white box in the kneepad must have Chernobyled somehow though it looked/smelled OK. A replacement white box (£7) did nowt, but a replacement black box from a breakers WITH A KEY did the trick at £30. The key appears a little slow to work, perhaps a fresh battery will help.

The only odd thing is the boot stays resolutely locked shut when I thought a revitalised fob might wake it up? Looking like I'll have to break in from the boot inner panel whcih I was trtying to avoid. Could this boot lock failure be a coincidence or does it need resetting somehow?

I think the box is out of a C/S70. This would explain why it will not open the boot.

But they have boot locks too? It is a few numbers away from the original white box's part number mind.
