Default Intercooler Upgrade

Are these any good and what benefits on a fairly standard car, with a Rica remap? D088 kit is too expensive and I saw these on Ebay :

That eBay one doesn't look much bigger than the standard one tbh.

Aye, makes you wonder when you see the Chines knocking something similar out for a fraction of the cost.

I guess it's mostly down to DO88 being designed in Sweden.

the stock t5 coolers are only 30mm deep, and at 42mm the eBay is over 30% thicker, which in turn means the core volume is vastly greater (important bit) plus it hasnt got boiling hot oil flowing in its endtanks. These are good for over 350bhp, and being solid aluminium will dissipate heat better than a stock cooler. the DO88 has bosses tigged to it for the rad pack assembly and yes is rather expensive, but has a HUUGE core volume and is well made. Theres a reason stock ones are called "interboilers", cos theyre woeful

Ok mate thanks. You say they are good for over 350bhp - but what about a fairly stock car like mine with just a Rica remap. Apparently pushing around 270ishbhp. I am tempted to try one of the 170 quid Ebay ones...

Are the intercoolers on T5's used to cool the oil as well?

I always thought an aftercooler should be ram fed with coolant air. What on earth were Volvo thinking sandwiching it between the rad and air con condenser?? Don't think I'll bother at all. Might replace hoses as they look a bit tired - but more generally, I have read upgrade coolers give negligible difference on cars not running mega boost...
