Default S60 D5 Tyre Recommendations

I'm at the point where I need to replace my tyres on a D5. I do 100 miles a day and from time to time tow a caravan. Can anyone recommend a god set of tyres. Not too concerned on cost but more about function.

Michelin Pilot Sport 3 - I've recently fitted 4 to my S60 D5 - completely transformed the car - no more wandering and tramlining, excellent grip, really quiet, smooth ride, HIGHLY reccomended.

Have a look at the reviews here

I bought Avon ZV5's 225/45/17 with XL load rating as i also tow a caravan with mine.

About £340 for four fitted and balanced. Seem absolutely fine.

If you are doing close to 100 mi/day at higher speed, then you might benefit from low rolling resistance tyres. They cost more but will increase mpg at highway cruising speed by a measurable amount.

The Michelin Energy tyres sold in the US in the size for the XC90 have a M+S designation, I don't know about the ones for the V70. I do know that the OE tyres on my V70 were Michelin Energy (195/65-15) and I would get 36 to 40 mpgUK on the highway at 70 to 80 mph. When those wore out I changed to Michelin Primacy and since then my highway mpg is no more than 34 to 36 mpgUK.

See http://www.michelin.co.uk/tyres/michelin-energy-saver.

The Michelin Energy are pricey, though.

I put the Michelin Energy on my wife's XC90 and could not detect any increase in highway mpg. I attribute lack of effect to the fact that aerodynamic resistance is overwhelmingly the dominant energy consumer in the XC90 at highway speeds.

I have Good year Eagle F1 all round,

Excellent road holding, quite, But have slightly shorter life than the Michelins. And they not cheap either.

Goodyear Excellence transformed mine after the OEM Pirelli 6000''s which were awfull for tramlining. Goodyear quieter too.

I've just changed from Pirelli P6000 to Uniroyal Rainsport 2's, 94 load rating.

They are much quiter then the Pirelli's better ride and handling, only done about 1500 miles on them so can't comment on wear rate yet.
