Minor bump
Hi, Im new to this forum and joined after searching the net.
I had a minor bump in my XC60 on Tuesday, a Ford Ka hit me on the off side front. His front bumper hit my wheel and incredibly did not mark the bodywork! Apart from a badly scored alloy there appears to be no other damage. I have booked the car into the garage to check for any damage but I was wondering if anyone could tell me if its likely anything else could be damaged? It was a very light impact, I hardly felt it and the car drives perfectly. |

Suspension, steering bits, bearings.. I'd have them all thoroughly checked.

It is possible that the tracking may have been effected, track rods can get bent and steering geometry can be knocked out with a bump on the wheel, it may be ok but always best to check, alloy wheel also need replacing as a matter of course, it may have stress damage.

Good news
Volvo say no damage apart from the damaged Ixion 18 alloy.

Well good news, but then still expensive alloy to replace, you having to go through insurance?

I would get a price for repairing or replacing the wheel, on paper, and give the other party a chance to settle in cash. Going through insurance probably has some financial repercussions for both parties even though the blame may lie on one side only.

I would hold off informing your insurance company until the other party refuses to settle.
If it can be sorted "off the books" that would be preferable. |

My own insurance, 'AB-UK', stipulates that I should notify them immediately of any "event" for information purposes. I personally would not want to risk jeopardising any future claim by not doing so.
Isn't this the point of having insurance in the first place? If the matter can be amicably resolved between the parties concerned that may be a better outcome, but it also requires a degree of trust that may or may not be present. Regards, John.
