Default towing eye - Rear

Hi all - dumb question but..

I need to tow my wife's car to a garage as her clutch has gone. Grabbed the towing eye from the toolkit and went to the rear of the car to pop out the plastic bit (which comes out far too easily!) only to find a whole bunch of what looks like black foam packing and no threaded insert...

Am I supposed to remove the black foam stuff (looks like insulation / noise deadening) or as I have a towbar fitted am I supposed to do something else?

I've only got a tow rope with two hooks / clips on so cant really mount it to the towbar properly and if I just loop it then there is no guarantee that it will stay on....

Don't know about the insulation. Mine is not like that. More generally it is a lashing eye for holding down the vehicle on sea transport. It is not a towing eye. I would find a way of using the tow bar.

You don't specify which car / model year you have.

However, I just checked the manual online for my car V60 2019 and it states that if you have a towbar fitted there is no rear mounting for a towing eye.

Yep - thats what I've just found..

Double-wrap around and chunky zipties to stop the rope from jumping and we are done.. was only about a mile down the road.. Annoying as her car was about to get WeBuyAnyCar'd at the weekend so was about to take it out for a clean...

Hey ho...

Well I stand corrected. I was mistaken. I just checked my tow bar equipped car and sure enough it does not have a threaded socket behind the bumper for the towing eye.

Glad you got it sorted. Sorry for incorrect advice.

No problem. I thought I was going mad, hence the question!
