I suspect that quite often it isn't the system itself which is at fault.
Many systems are mechanical, and robust and not likely to fail. Rather it's the sensor or warning system which is faulty as they are electronic and computerised, and like any computer or electrical components far more likely to fail. Replacing the sensor usually resolves the "problem" - one which didn't actually exist in the first place. |

We had it occur about two months ago. It was right after normal servicing. Ours is a 2017 T8 Hybrid w/ about 21k miles on it. The dealer restored all the software to no avail. Then they replaced a small battery that had failed in the system than runs the notices. Then they replaced the actual Hybrid battery. That fixed the problem. There were no costs because the car is still under warranty.

You can get a good idea of the faith the manufacturer has in its components by the warranty it offers on them.
Toyota's battery warranty is 8 years/100,000 miles. Volvo's is the same. (Except in some US states where it's 10 years and 150,000 miles) Hyundai on the all-electric Ioniq, is 8 years/125,000 miles Last edited by AB-UK; Jun 3rd, 2018 at 11:07. |

Hybrid System Failure
This message appeared on our XC60 T8 today. The car was driven short distances twice. Message continues to appear. Dealer said it was permissible to drive. Car is three months old with 1,500 miles on the odometer. Dealer appointment tomorrow at 0815. Love the car otherwise.

UPDATE: June 20
The XC60 T8 remains in the Volvo shop. The Hybrid battery(S) have been removed from the car and tested cell by cell and reports sent to Volvo Engineers. Apparently at least one cell only will hold 3 volts not the intended 18. Engineers have yet to decide if they replace all the batteries or simply the defective cells. We love this car and are frankly very disappointed in the manner in which the Volvo Home Office is handling this matter. The car has now been in the shop for 15 straight days. |

Post Script - we have our XC60 T8 back! We love this car. Volvo finally elected to replace the entire battery and system board. It took the engineers three weeks for them to come to this decision. Shame on them for taking so long. That is the only black spot on this incident. The local dealership handled the situation with poise and professionalism. Incident is closed.
