Some photos to help
Hi, I have done mine a couple of times, this is based on a 2006 auto but i think they are all similar.
I found it easiest to lift our the centre console top and then unclip the cupholder from underneath. You may be able to pull it up without but i am scared for breaking the lugs. Fist unclip the gear lever surround, it just pulls up from the back edge next to the cup holder lid. Also remove the rubber pen tray behind the cupholder lid, (pulls up), you can the get to two torx screws at the under the pen holder and two at the front below the heater controls. With these removed the centre console top just pulls upwards, it is on metal spring clips and designed to be removed. This will bring up the whole cup holder box with it. You don't need to remove it, just reach underneath the cupholder and feel for the two pegs that push through and unclip them so you can remove the cupholder. As said its then just a case of cleaning the crud out and making sure everything is in position. here are some photos to help.
