Default New car insurance

I am due to collect my new XC60 inscription next week, do Volvo provide drive away insurance ? Or will I require my own insurance to change over when I hand my existing car back on collection? Many thanks.

You can use the 7 day insurance to get your new car taxed, then change to your own new insurance after the 7 days.

Just be aware that the excesses are quite high (around £500 for windscreen etc). This was the reason for me just using my own insurance straight away.

7 day insurance provided by volvo is good. Once you take it on, even if you go with another insurer after the 7 days. You get a voucher for £250 off your excess.

If you need to claim you call the Volvo insurance regardless of who you are insured with and get volvo insurance to handle the claim and you get 250 off your excess.

Here is the email they sent:
What does that mean? We’ll pay the first £250 of your insurance excess if you have an accident and call Volvo first 0330 102 8846, before your insurer. For example, if your excess is £350, your cost will be reduced to just £100.
Just one call to us and we'll save you money on your insurance claim and deal with your insurer for you.

Wow. That is taking claims management companies to another level. Referral fees have been around for ages distorting the market and pushing up premiums, but that is the first time I have seen a direct payment to the end consumer to use a particular claims management company....

Our quote for Volvo insurance was £1350, instead of £800 with current insurer, just so you have a frame of reference. Obviously that varies a lot with your circumstances.

We used the 7 day insurance though, very nice they offer that. Enabled us to sell the old car privately first without doubling up on insurance.

Thanks everyone, that simplifies things for us. My current MY16 XC60 costs £187 per anum here in the low crime Dales , I imagine our new one will be a good bit on top of that.

You might be surprised, I managed to my renewal quote down to £20 less than last year’s quote on the MY17 XC60 - mind you it is still £100 more than your existing quote!!

The seemingly high price stated here was alarming, so I've just done an on-line quote, and LV quoted £404, including zero voluntary excess, compulsory excess of £300, and legal protection.
This was for a March 2018 T8 Hybrid XC90 Inscription Pro, currently for sale at £65,990.
